As e-waste volumes increase and awareness of the importance of safe e-waste management grows in Africa as in other parts of the world, there will undoubtedly be a big role for the construction industry. Demand is likely to increase for the building of facilities for the safe processing and recycling of e-waste. In many countries, current e-waste management capacity is too limited to enable the majority of recyclable waste to be collected, transported, and processed. There is also a pressing need to provide safe landfill or incineration facilities for the e-waste that cannot be recycled. At present, many such facilities are inadequate, allowing leaching of hazardous substances into soil and water resources or into the atmosphere.
